Heart Guide for Lesson 13:
The Power of Believing
The self-blinding effect of pride. Beware of how religious pride can blinds us. Yes, we are believers and that's a great thing! However, our faith came to us through nothing of our own that we can boast about—even 'saving faith' is the gift of God (Ephesians 2:8).
The great difficulty at growing our faith is recognizing our still active levels of unbelief as the underlying problem and then going to God with it. No one prayer can guarantee humility, but this prayer is a good beginning.
Father, it is not my faith that saves me. I am being saved by Your calling, Your love, Your truth, Jesu's Blood, and the Holy Spirit's power. Forgive me for taking credit for having faith in You (for You alone opened my eyes) and for turning a blind eye to what I have not been believing (that You have already shown me to be true). I cast down all past pride and fear. I want to become able to see this hidden stronghold when it is blocking me. Help me to believe what You believe. I do believe, but please help me recognize and overcome my unbelief!
