Renunciations and Affirmations
Heart Guide for Lesson 6:
The Pathway of Temptation
Renounce any previous agreements with untruth; believe Jesus' truth as your new way of life. (John 14:6)
Hate the bait! The bait that the enemy is hoping you will reach for is the lie hidden away inside the temptation (review step 4 in The Pathway of Temptation). David cultivated a hatred for his enemies. Under the conditions of the New Covenant we do not war with "flesh and blood" (people), but with the spiritual powers of darkness that are our true enemies: sin, temptation and evil spirits (Ephesians 6:12).
Do I not hate those who hate you, O Lord? And do I not loathe those who rise up against You? I hate them with complete hatred; I count them my enemies. Psalms 139:21-22 ESV
Find the lie and break the hook. That temptation is the effort of an enemy to steal, kill or destroy—why do you keep reaching for it thinking it is a way of life? Close off that pathway of temptation by exposing the lie and choosing to believe the truth with your whole heart.
